For my Qualitative Research class, we had to write a Mini-Qualitative Study. As always, I centered this on automated feedback for my programming assignments. Automated feedback is good for both teachers and students. It provides students with immediate feedback, and it helps free up teachers' time to work with students who are struggling beyond the feedback.

I designed a study that would use observations and interviews with my students to determine which features of the automated feedback were most helpful. I want the automated feedback to support them in the learning process, such as helping them determine their next step rather than simply telling them whether they are right or wrong. This could change how I write my feedback and which cases I use to test their code. I dream that I could write tests that help them learn how to problem solve and become better programmers.
